Project Overview
C&B Electrical Contractors Ltd was commissioned to upgrade the lighting within a busy city centre car park, improving illumination levels, energy efficiency, and user safety while working within operational constraints.
Scope of Works
- Supply and installation of 16no. 65W LED streetlights
- Installation onto existing lighting columns
- Fitting of new double outreach arms to improve light distribution
- Integration of photocell controls within each luminaire
- Phased working to allow continued use of the car park
- Temporary closure of 32 parking bays to facilitate safe working
Project Constraints
- Works carried out during normal working hours
- Live environment with ongoing public access
- Requirement to minimise disruption to parking availability
- Strict safety controls around work zones
Solution
A well planned approach allowed our team to complete the full installation in an efficient manner, isolating sections of the car park without reducing parking availability (a key financial consideration for the project). The phased approach provided both safe access for installation teams & maintained key egress routes for members of the public. Alongside this we delivered:

- Improved visibility across parking bays and vehicle routes
The installation of Photocells to each Column, providing:
- Automatic dusk-to-dawn operation
- Reduced energy consumption
- Reduced maintenance requirements
Compliance & Standards
- All works were completed in accordance with:
- Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
- BS 7671 Wiring Regulations
- Site specific risk assessments, including dynamic risk assessments & MEWP Rescue Plans.
