C&B Electrical Contractors Ltd were appointed to deliver the installation and commissioning of new external pathway lighting at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH). This project forms part of a wider initiative to improve safety, accessibility and visibility across key areas of the hospital site.
The Challenge
The existing lighting along a primary walkway within the hospital grounds did not provide sufficient illumination for the number of staff, patients and visitors using the route, particularly during early mornings, evenings and winter months.
As a live healthcare environment operating 24 hours a day, the solution needed to:
- Improve lux levels across the area
- Provide consistent and reliable lighting coverage
- Be installed with minimal disruption to hospital operations
- Meet all relevant safety and compliance standards
Our Solution
C&B Electrical Contractors Ltd carried out the full installation and commissioning of new external lighting across two phases of the project.
Phase 1 included:
- Installation of high-performance external lighting along the designated pathway
- Careful positioning to achieve even light distribution and remove dark spots
- Full testing and commissioning to confirm performance and compliance
- Close coordination with hospital teams to maintain safe access throughout the works.
Phase 2 is now complete and included:
- Extension of the external lighting installation to further improve lux levels across the site
- Installation of a new submain within one of the key staff multi storey car parks
- Installation of a new local distribution board to supply the lighting
- Final testing, commissioning and verification of the full system
